Woo Hoo!

40 week appointment was today. She said I am 75% effaced and VERY soft! No dilation though. But she told me that was all VERY good! She said when the cervix is firm, painful contractions last much longer because they have to work to soften the cervix AND dilate it. So she said (though this must be a guess) that when my contractions do come on, I will have 4-6 hours worth rather than 10-12 hours worth - to get me fully where i need to be to give birth. I asked her how she knows this and she said "after doing this for years, this is pretty much how it always goes!" So, let's hope she is right!

She also said the baby is almost fully engaged, and I guess if he goes any lower, he will be in the birth canal!

And now since I am overdue I have to go to L & D on Monday for a non stress test. Then if i am still pregnant, I go in Wednesday to talk about induction.

So, there is my update! 75% effaced, VERY soft and the babe is almost fully engaged! I am really happy with that appointment. Sure, I would like to be dilated but i am super excited that my cervix is soft and that is a good thing!

Alan felt him kick! 21 weeks, 4 days...

So, I have been having some pretty bad back pain and it has been keeping me up at night. But last night around 3 in the morning, I was awake and lying on my back. I find a LITTLE relief from the back pain if I lie on my back, but that doesn't last long because of the extra pressure my belly puts on me! Anyhow, I don't think the babe likes when I lay like that, because it really gets him moving! Well last night I was lying there, and with my hand on my belly I realized I could feel him move from the outside - for the first time! He kicked me a few times, so I decided to wake Alan up because he has been dying to feel him move. And, HE DID! He felt him kick! I was so fun!

I felt the baby move today! 17 weeks, 6 days!

For the first time! And then I felt the babe again about an hour later - Awwww it was so cool...And we had an ultrasound last week and the doc said there was a 90% chance it's a BOY! But, it could have been the umbilical cord hanging down. We will know more on 5/30 when we get the Level II ultrasound!!
